Purbeck Environmental Action Team (PEAT)

This group formed in early 2007 to focus on local Purbeck issues. To date they have taken part in the Purbeck Environmental Fair and have organised a study visit to New Earth Solutions composting facility.

PEAT is hosting it 's first large all day event called "PEAT on the street" on
Saturday 20th September. The aim of
the event is to raise awareness of how it is possible to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

To contact the group email Beryl Ezzard beryle [at ] homecall.co.uk

More information is avaliable on their website www.peat-da21.org

Turn Lyme Green Campaign
This group came into being in August 2007 to highlight the use of plastics particularly plastic shopping bags.

Their aim was to raise awareness about the issue and support business and community to make the change to a plastic bag free Lyme Regis.

To date they have achieved a substantial reduction in the use of plastic bags with over 600 cloth bags given out locally. They have used a very creative approach encouraging people to make their own bags or to use cloth ones while shopping and have shown the movie “Message in the Waves” to highlight the issue of plastics in the sea.

Their website is full of good ideas and links and the group can be contacted at http://turnlymegreen.wordpress.com/

Weymouth Environmental Action Group
Weymouth CCSL group was launched in the summer of 2007. They initially held a number of talks with guest speakers from Dorset Energy Action Centre (DEAC). In response to the need for more energy efficiency information, the group trained with DEAC and created an information point in Weymouth Library. This was set up in late September and officially launched in November.

Since September, the centre has given away 270 free light bulbs to visitors completing their HEC form and given these and many other people advice about reducing energy consumption in their homes.

The group have also hosted an information stall on Weymouth seafront and continue to host evening talks locally.

The service is avaliable at Bridport library on Wednesdays between 9.30am and 12:30pm.

Pilsdon Community
This is a Christian faith community just north of Bridport founded in 1958, and open to people of all faiths and none.

The Community has a three-fold life of prayer, simple manual work and the welcome of visitors, particularly those living on the margins of society. The Community wishes to live in a more sustainable way.

Rather than make environmentally friendly gestures, they wish to carry out a comprehensive audit of their lifestyle and to determine a 20 year development plan leading towards a sustainable model of living.
