28th February 2007
First Sustainability organisations representation event held
in Dorchester.
|
|
Kate
Hindson of the DSP addresses DA21 reps and other sustainability
organisations.
DA21 aims to continue to strengthen the sustainability sector's
voice within decision making bodies in Dorset, by drawing
together a network of organisations working for sustainability
and increasing their opportunities to be heard.
Our online directory already lists
many of the organisations involved in sustainability in Dorset.
|
As part of these efforts to
strengthen the voice of this sector, DA21 are holding a series
of events to inform and enable sustainability organisations
on how they can influence decision makers, and create a more
sustainable Dorset.
Our first event to further this aim was held on the the 27th
February, at the DA21 offices. Kate Hindson, Manager of the
Dorset Strategic Partnership talked about the new Draft Sustainable
Community Strategy and the work of community planning partnerships
in Dorset. Kate was also accompanied by Maria Clarke who co-ordinates
the work of the West Dorset District Partnership.
There was lively debate about the issues surrounding the
strategy, and also concerning how DA21 reps feed into the
various partnerships and other groups which DA21 is represented
on.
DA21 hopes to organise an event later in the year, this time
with a regional emphasis. For more information please contact
our external relations officer, Mike Jones, at

Can Climate Change? |
|

Climate Change is the biggest issue of our time, one that concerns
our very survival as a species. The trustees feel that DA21
can provide some local leadership and inspiration here, and
are leading the creation of a Dorset Climate Change Coalition.
|
The Coalition has so far had 3 meetings, and a steering
group, comprising of DA21, Dorset Energy Advice Centre,
Kate Hall from Dorset County Council, Dorset Federation
of Womens Institutes, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Dorset Community
Action and other partners has been formed.
The coalition has been successfull in attracting a grant
from the South West Network Fund, and the co-op group,
as well as funding from DA21 and Dorset County Council.
For more information please email
us or take a
look at the coalition
information page.

Climate Changes possible effects on Dorset might like to

12th November 2006
Weymouth CCSL group holds event in Littlemoor |
Weymouth group held a Save
Energy Save Waste Event in the Littlemoor church on the 11th
Nov. The day was busy in the morning, but quiet in the afternoon,
with 8 stalls. An estimated 400 people visited over the day
and quite detailed discussion with many. Kate Bagshaw on the
WRAP stall called this “quality time”. Time to
give people plenty of info and advice, unlike some very busy
summer shows, where people were queuing up to talk! |
The next meeting in January
is planned to feature a DA 21 slide show and bring in more
Weymouth & Littlemoor contacts, the venue will probably
be in a Weymouth Church/Church Hall. Please contact
the office for final information. Download our latest
December newsletter .

DA21
selected for voluntary sector help |
Help is at hand! DA21 was elected
from over 200 applicants nationwide last year to take part
in a research project on how to improve planning in small
organisations. |
The culmination of this work
was a meeting of the charities stakeholders on the 28th November
at the United Church in Dorchester, which was facilitated
by Mark Bitel, the consultant assigned to DA21. The outcome
was very postive and we hope to continue to progress this
process into our business planning for the new year. |
